Toro paper lamp
Developed as part of a material research into washi, the traditional Japanese paper, this project explores how its strength, translucency and fibrous texture can shape light. The Toro lamp is built from three stacked rings of washi stretched over a flat-cut frame. Sixteen ribs with semicircular profiles slot into four support rings, giving each layer its soft, rounded form. The paper filters the light into a warm, even glow, and the thin ribs show through as fine lines across the surface. Designed in The Hague in 2024.
